1
Background of Assignment A large international Telecom company is looking for possible new mobile communication services for the European and North-American market. Five years from now, mobile services should be available for groups with special needs
2
Groups with special needs Several user groups are not able to handle the current mobile telephones, e.g., young children (ages 3-5): no / low reading skills and low motor coordination; elderly people: decreasing eye sight, low motor competence and decreasing memory reliability (sometimes no history of mobile phone use).
3
practical assignment: content of project (example of project): for future use by the indicated groups: children 3-5 y elderly people (65+) design special procedures, related system and devices: allowing communication with care takers (parents/children, home physician, school teachers, other care takers) providing possibilities for unobtrusive monitoring to be implemented about 5 years from now

5
Task analysis requirements The task analysis should include at least all relevant aspects of, both, the user group with special needs, and the caretakers’ side of current and future processes, organization, devices, and situations for supporting communication and monitoring.
6
Detail design requirements the detail design, including scenario for use, prototype, and detail specifications, should at least consider the functional, dialogue, and representation aspects of the device for the group with special needs and two categories of caretakers.
7
UID - project structure task modeling –task model 1 –task model 2 detail design –functionality and formalism –dialogue and formalism –representation design scenario and prototyping evaluation
8
Management tasks coordination and planning resource management (group structure) contact with client & contract documentation and reporting collaboration with teachers in planning classes
9
task modeling collecting and modeling current task knowledge –task model 1 deciding and modeling future task world –task model 2 provide input for detail design provide knowledge about user characteristics provide details for scenario and evaluation revise task model 2 based on detail specifications
10
detail design Develop details of –functionality (incl. formalism) –dialogue (incl. formalism) –representation design provide input for scenario and prototyping provide input for evaluation iterate and improve based on results of these feed-back to task model 2
11
scenario and prototyping develop needed representations, simulations, mock-ups, and prototypes for evaluation based on task analysis (TM2) and detail design
12
evaluation evaluate specifications of task model 2 and detail design based on representations developed in scenario and prototype for users as specified by task analysis and for client feed back to task model and detail design specifications
