January16-18, 2003ONR HyCODE Workshop Miami, FL Conclusions and New Questions Model closure is critical. –Initially described by grazing, but there are significant terms describing the bottom boundary and regeneration terms that are difficult to close. Physical simulation is critical to calculation of ecological/optical simulation model metrics. –See OOXVI LEO 3-D simulations, as well. Fresh water fluxes must be considered for this site for < 40 m isobath during periods of high flow. –May not be as important in June, critical in later months.

January16-18, 2003ONR HyCODE Workshop Miami, FL Conclusions and New Questions Non-sediment IOPs, CDOM, and chlorophyll modeling appear to be reasonable estimates. –Rrs is not. Why? In shore sediment resuspension appears to dramatically impact Rrs in all wavelengths. –Ratio based remote sensing algorithms appear to finesse this difference.
22
January16-18, 2003ONR HyCODE Workshop Miami, FL Status of Data Analysis/Data Needs Further work on Rrs calculations is required. –Drill down of model coupling and satellite estimates is required. –Comparison with Spectral Signatures cruise, Oct. 1998. Transport of EcoSim code to LEO is complete. –Currently distributed as open source in ROMS 1.8 package. Further simulation work on the West Florida Shelf requires the completion and release of ECOHAB data.
