2 George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950)
Shaw was born in Dublin. Henrik Ibsen had a great influence on Shaw's thinking. Mrs. Warren’s Profession was completed in 1893, but this play not performed in public in the England until 1926. Shaw was award the Nobel prize for literature in 1925.

3 Motivation The corruption of the class. Economic problem—Poverty and
Wealth. The truth of the prostitute—prostitute is forced by social situation.

4 Characters Praed: An artist and architect. Mrs. Warren’s friend.
Mrs. Warren: Also called Miss Vavasour. Once was aprostitute and later runs several successful brothels. Vivie Warren: Mrs. Warren’s daughter.

5 Characters Reverend Samuel Gardner: A rector and English priest.
Frank Gardner: Reverend Samuel Gardner’s son. Sir George Crofts: Mrs. Warren’s partner.

6 Summary Act i: During a holiday, Vivie knows Mrs.
Warren’s friends. Vivie begins to grow suspicious about her mother. Act ii: Mrs. Warren tells Vivie the circumstances about her past difficult life. Act iii: Sir George Crofts makes proposal to Vivie. Act iv: Vivie wants to support herself and she must part with Mrs. Warren.
