History Panning and searching for gold was a common practice until the 19 th century Since the Middle Ages, people called „aurearii“ have searched for gold in Bavarian rivers – often fishermen Gold was looked for in the rivers Isar, Danube, Inn, in the moss of Erding, and in other rivers – but not much gold was found

How much gold was actually found? The gold which was found had to be given to the lord of the country 1631 – 1640: gold was found worth 132 ducats 1889: only 113 grams of gold found Today, no gold is left – panning for gold is forbidden now anyway

Pearl fishing Looking for pearls was more successful: from 1733 to 1910, a number of 16,939 pearls was found Bavarian Prince Maximilian I was a patron of pearl fishing Pearls „made in Bavaria“ were quite famous
