Process from grant-writing IRB implementation –What is context for grant?, What is known in this area?, How will your project advance knowledge? –Project (significance, approach, innovation), PI, Environment –Fundable projects must be Important, Feasible, and Interesting –Evidence of feasibility often required, so changes after funding should be minimal –Speak with program officer before submitting grant –Submit IRB application and once funded make any modifications –All modifications after project begins (which often occur) must be approved by IRB, any substantive ones must be approved by funding agency

Grant Writing- Research Career opportunities in psychological research –Who can write grants? Anyone with good ideas, adequate training, and resources to complete project –Who can work on research studies PI, project coordinators, statisticians, research assistants, research clinicians

Structure of a Grant Specific Aims –What are the SPECIFIC aims of the study? –What are the questions that this study answers/will answer? Background and Significance –Purpose and goals of study? –Rationale should be clear and theoretically informed –Why must they fund this? Preliminary Studies –What have you or others done as a build-up to this work? –What evidence is there that this is feasible and you can pull this off?

Structure of a Grant Research Design/Methods –Participants? Who? Why? What are inclusion/exclusion criteria? –Design? Experiment? Conditions? –Procedures? Where conducted? What is treatment? How long? Checks on integrity? Who are clinicians/assessors? What is assessed, how, and when? –Data Analyses
