PECITI Objectives, 2008-2012 1.Establish Public Policies in the short, medium and long terms that enables the strengthening of the education-applied and basic science-technology and innovation chain. 2.Decentralize scientific, technological and innovation activities in order to contribute to regional development. 3.Foster greater funding for basic and applied science, technology and innovation. 4.Increase scientific, technological and innovation infrastructure investment. 5.Evaluate the application of public resources which will be invested in high quality human resources training and scientific research, technological development and innovation tasks. Mexico-European Union Cooperation Strategy General objective: The National Innovation System’s strengthening through international cooperation with the European Union. Strategy 1. Increase the country's technological and innovation capabilities through the internationalization of Mexican S&T groups in Europe Strategy 2. Boost Mexican resources with European resources (critical mass, infrastructure, funding initiatives) Strategy 3. Access to high level scientific and innovation networks, through the participation in joint actions and projects (FONCICYT 15.5 M€; Nano coordinated call 11 M€) Access to financial resources for the development of projects (FP7- 50 mil M€; Nano coordinated call 11 M€; FONCICYT 15.5 M€…) Better results of the research outputs in terms of its impact in society and in the economy (technology transfer; application of the research outcomes …) Mobility of high talented human resources (Marie Curie actions)

Visibility of the Mexican scientific and technological activities in Europe (cooperation website with Europe, Newsletters, seminars and events…) It contribute to increase the technological content of the industrial activity (linkages between industry and academy; technological transfer; insertion of researchers and technologists in the enterprises…) Exchange of information and best practices to design or improve programs and have recommendations for public policies (Bilateral Steering Committee; joint evaluation of projects) T o participate and coordinate regional initiatives; for the Latinamerican – European relationship (negotiation of calls for LA priorities; ALC-UE Summit…)

In a global perspective (7°FP + FONCICYT + bilateral calls) There is a huge potential of ST&I cooperation between Mexico and the European Union The Mexican and European communities have demonstrated high interest and capacities to cooperate as peers in the overall activities of ST&I The current instruments have been an excellent tool to discover and mobilize this prosperous potential technological cooperation There is a proven demand of both region communities for research and innovation joint programs: ICT sector for more than 200 million of Euros (strategic target area for international cooperation) General conclusions of the ST&I cooperation
