8 SC In UC July 15 2006 Cynthia Shelton Dear Colleague: Thank you for attending "Managing Intellectual Property: What Faculty Need to Know to Publish and Teach in the Digital Age" on November 18. The success of the symposium was due in large part to the faculty's high level of interest and participation. If you missed any part of the event, you can see videos of the talks and notes and handouts from the other events at: http://www.library.ucla.edu/symposium Based on ideas from the breakout sessions, the Library is now planning a series of follow-up activities to build on the momentum of the symposium. We will work with our co-sponsors to address these needs and issues regarding intellectual property that came to light during the day. Tell us what you would like to see as follow-up by checking as many of the options below as you choose: ____a brief copyright-education workshop for authors ____a brief copyright-education workshop for teachers ____a brief workshop on how to set up an open-access journal ____a focused forum on [list the topic]: ___________________________________ We welcome your feedback on the symposium and additional suggestions for follow up. Sincerely, Gary E. Strong University Librarian Cindy Shelton Associate University Librarian, Collection Management and Scholarly Communication

9 SC In UC July 15 2006 Cynthia Shelton Leveraging the Symposium Listen to what they say: “We want copyright help” Copyright Help Line: a pilot to identify their needs and our needs for resources IP Roundtable that has become a focal point for identifying how to provide copyright management services for faculty

10 SC In UC July 15 2006 Cynthia Shelton What we would do differently Anticipate the interest of technologists and support staff and plan accordingly (either include them or plan a separate forum) Follow-up more quickly with individual faculty requests outside of CR management Get the sponsors together quickly following the symposium to plan next steps

11 SC In UC July 15 2006 Cynthia Shelton Lots of leveraging left to do More focused forums this fall Design of workshop for technologists Continued development of plan for copyright services
