SCS Inventory and Problem Tracking System Dustin Bowman Chris Burnette Ben Cassell Jeremiah Griswold

Summary Extended SCS Database Tracks inventory Links computers to their problems Provides history of computers and problems PHP and MySQL used

Introduction SCS database for tracking problems and inventory Current inventory tracking in Access Using MySQL and PHP – better solution for inventory tracking system

Project Overview A short story

In the beginning… Saw a need in SCS – knew there was a better way than Access The project was just a concept at the beginning of the semester Milestone 1 helped start form the actual project

The idea grew: Milestone 2 forced thought through the requirements document Started to plan how to integrate the two databases

The application took form: Physical design became a factor First Prototype (show prototype) Diagrams (show diagrams) ER, DFD Traced requirements to actual application

The application’s true form appears Front end: An almost complete UI in html was born Back end: SQL database set up

Milestone 5: The Large Leap Most of the implementation done PHP and MySQL A testing plan set

Complete! Milestone 6 brings completion Implementation, Testing, Improvement, and User Manual finished

Application Demonstration …

The Impact We Made Greatly enhance SCS ability to track and view inventory Multi-user tracking of problems and inventory Ease of use

A Critical View Strengths: Open Source Technology Simple and efficient It works! Fulfills SCS requirements Weaknesses: Security not too strong Programming infamiliarity Integration of both databases

What did SCS think? The head of SCS (Mrs. Berte Thompson) was, in a word, pleased Asked a few questions about how things will work Looking forward to using it, especially this summer

What we learned… How to publish documentation for a project in a business-oriented environment It’s better to spread increments out The importance of time management in incremental developments Need to allow sufficient margins to get project done Familiarity with tools helps Gained knowledge of PHP, MySQL The art of distributing workload

The End Thank you
