Incoming Graduate Students 763 applications (460 MS, 303 PhD) 30 offers with aid (9 MS, 21 PhD) 16 offers with aid accepted, 13 came. 251 offers without aid (222 MS, 29 PhD) 126 of those accepted, but only 76 have come. Total = 89 new GS.

Total Grad Student Body 104 retained students with aid. 111 retained without aid. 292 total GS present Major difference from last year: 13 new RA+TA vs. 39 last year.

Graduating Students Sept. ‘02 conferrals 3 Ph.D.: Yuqing Song, Hongyi Wu, Chungseng Xin. (Ankur Teredesai and John Tsiligardis to defend soon.) 20 MS. Including June’02 and Feb. ‘02: 5 Ph.D. (1+1+3) 55 MS

Coming This Year New M.S. in Information Technology Program---hope to install for Fall 2003 admission… Offering M.S. degrees abroad… UB Graduate School scrutinizing MS Project requirements. New GS retention funds. Graduate Review Sat. Nov. 3 rd.

M.S. Requirements: 30 credit hrs., min. 24 at UB CSE. One 5xx core course from each of 4 areas--->= B avg., none below B-. At least 2 more 5xx + 1 6xx course. M.S. Thesis or Project. Project can be a 6xx course with project component, grade >= B+.

Ph.D. Requirements---to ABD 72 credit hrs., min 36 at UB CSE. Complete Qualifiers within 2 years: Take 531 and 596. Take 4 other core courses, at least 1 in each area, B average in all six. Take 6xx in major area, >= B+ Take another 6xx and seminar. Major Prof. & Committee within 3 yrs. Defend Thesis Proposal within 4 yrs.
