Refraction Example: A light ray starts in a medium with index of refraction n 1 and goes into a medium with index of refraction n 2. The angle of incidence is 1. The angle of refraction (transmission) is 2. a) If n 1 < n 2, where is the light ray traveling fastest? b) If n 1 < n 2, which is larger, 1 or 2 ? c) A beam of light is incident on the interface between plastic ( n = 1.3) and air with a 40 o angle as shown.
