Touch Judging June 2006Ian F Hailes Line Ball Your Call: ► If the ball, which has crossed the plain-of- touch, touches a player beyond the touch- line, the ball is in touch, regardless of whether the player is on the ground or jumping in the air. The ball has been put in- touch by the kicking team. continued…

Touch Judging June 2006Ian F Hailes Line Ball Your Call continued : ► If a player has one foot in the field-of-play and one foot in-touch, and catches the ball, the team that kicked the ball has put the ball in-touch. ► The only situation where play continues after the ball contacts a player beyond the touch-line is where the ball has not crossed the plane-of-touch and the player plays the ball but does not catch it.

Touch Judging June 2006Ian F Hailes When not to lower the flag: ► When the player throwing in puts any part of either foot in the field-of-play (but manage first!). ► When the team not entitled to throw-in has done so. ► When, at a quick throw-in, the ball that went into touch is replaced by another ball, or the ball is touched by anyone except the player doing the quick throw. NB: It is for the referee, and not the touch judge, to decide whether or not the ball was thrown in from the correct place, straight and 5m.
