Sunday Sunday was a very interesting day because we had a bus tour of Budapest and we learnt about the history and culture of the city from the Hungarian students.
2
After breakfast we went onto a coach that the Hungarians had arranged for us and we drove around the city looking at all the different buildings and landmarks. Our first stop was Hero’s Square, which had many statues, including the seven leaders who had an impact on Hungary. Two of these were saints. After we had seen Hero’s Square we went to City Park which had smaller models of important buildings in Hungary. We had a short time to get lunch at fast food restaurants in The Octagon. After lunch we got back on the bus and went to Buda Castle, where we had a long walk up a lot of steps up to the top! It was worth it though because the view at the top of the whole city was amazing. We then went to the Citadella, where we walked to the top and had another great view of the city. There were lots of lovely market stalls on the way up so we had a chance to do some shopping! For dinner we had an opportunity to go to a traditional Hungarian restaurant, which was a new delicacy for all of us! There were so many dishes to choose from, including fish, meat and of course gulyás! Some people had dessert which they said was very nice but because the portions were very large, many of us could not manage dessert. After dinner we returned to our hotel using public transport as the bus had to go, and we had some free time in the lobby to socialise before going to bed
