New Employment Legislation Earnings from a student-athlete's on- or off-campus employment that occurs at any time is exempt and is not counted in determining a student-athlete's full grant-in-aid or in the institution's financial aid limitations, provided: –compensation is not based on student-athlete’s fame –compensated only for work actually performed –compensated at a rate commensurate with the going rate in that locality for similar services

3. Countable Athletically Related Activities Countable athletically related activities include any required activity with an athletics purpose involving student-athletes and at the direction of, or supervised by one or more of an institution's coaching staff (including strength and conditioning coaches) and must be counted within the weekly and daily limitations under Bylaw 17.1.5.1 and 17.1.5.2. Administrative activities (e.g., academic meetings, compliance meetings) shall not be considered as countable athletically related activities.

Implementation Until 2005: Those student-athletes first entering a collegiate institution on or after August 1, 2003, shall meet the current or new standard. – Can qualify by meeting either Current or New Standard After 2005: Those student-athletes first entering a collegiate institution on or after August 1, 2005. – Can only qualify by meeting the New Standard

11. Continuing Eligibility (Current Standard ) – Who has to be certified? Mid-Year Transfer at CMU Subsequent to First Year at CMU After a season of eligibility at CMU – Once a SA qualifies under one of these standards, then they are responsible for each subsequent semester of enrollment.

12. Continuing Eligibility (Current Standard ) – Averaging Method- Average of 12 hours per term with banked credits hours – Previous Two Semesters- Satisfactory completion of 24 hours since the beginning of the previous fall term or preceding two semesters; and – 75 Percent Requirement– Must earn 75% of minimum number of semester hours during the regular academic year. – Missed Term, Medical Absence or International Competition– May prorate 12 credits hour per term

13. Continuing Eligibility (New Standard ) – Who has to be certified? Mid-Year Transfer at CMU Subsequent to First Year at CMU After a season of eligibility at CMU – Once a SA qualifies under one of these standards, then they are responsible for each subsequent semester of enrollment.

Continuing Eligibility (New Standard ) – Twenty Four Hours in First Year- 24 academic semester hours before the SA enters second year of collegiate enrollment. – Eighteen Semester Hours – 18 hours during the academic year since the previous fall or since the previous two semesters. – Six –Semester Hours– Must earn 6 credit hours in preceding term (at any collegiate institution) in order to be eligible for competition. – Missed Term, Medical Absence or International Competition– May prorate 9 credits hour per term

15. Implementation: Effective August 1, 2003 For current student-athletes or those who are currently enrolled and later transfer: For the remainder of their tenure, they will be held responsible for Current Standard. SA’s Entering Any College post August 01, 2003 : Will be held accountable for the New Standard.

16. Continuing Eligibility (Current Standard ) – Percentage of Degree 25% -- Entering third year (5 th sem.) of collegiate enrollment 50%-- Entering fourth year (7 th sem.) of collegiate enrollment 75%-- Entering fifth year (9 th sem.) of collegiate enrollment – Timing of Certification: Third or subsequent academic year of full-time enrollment.

Continuing Eligibility (New Standard ) – Percentage of Degree 40% -- Entering third year (5 th sem.) of collegiate enrollment 60%-- Entering fourth year (7 th sem.) of collegiate enrollment 80%-- Entering fifth year (9 th sem.) of collegiate enrollment – Timing of Certification: Third or subsequent academic year of full-time enrollment.

Continuing Eligibility (Current Standard ) – Percentage of Degree – 5yr Program or 150 or more crd. 20% -- Entering third year (5 th sem.) of collegiate enrollment 40%-- Entering fourth year (7 th sem.) of collegiate enrollment 60%-- Entering fifth year (9 th sem.) of collegiate enrollment – Timing of Certification: Third or subsequent academic year of full-time enrollment.

Continuing Eligibility (New Standard ) – Percentage of Degree – 5yr Program or 150 or more crd. 33% -- Entering third year (5 th sem.) of collegiate enrollment 50%-- Entering fourth year (7 th sem.) of collegiate enrollment 67%-- Entering fifth year (9 th sem.) of collegiate enrollment – Timing of Certification: Third or subsequent academic year of full-time enrollment.
