Clustering: Algorithm development and analysis R. Cassell, G. Bower

Sept. 30, 2002Clustering: Cassell,Bower2 Clustering Algorithms Current clusterer (SimpleClusterFinder) : All adjacent hits in a calorimeter form a cluster Cheater: Use MC information, all hits associated with a particle form a cluster. Extremely useful for comparisons and evaluation.

Sept. 30, 2002Clustering: Cassell,Bower3 Refined Clusters Extend idea of adjacency across EM-HAD border. Works well with “gapless” detector, not as efficient for standard detectors. Need to extend across Barrel-Endcap borders. Adjacency extended to an integer number of bins in theta, phi, and layer.

Sept. 30, 2002Clustering: Cassell,Bower4 Tools Redefine detector segmentation: Detector definitions changed and CalorimeterHits rewritten for each event. Allows using existing data sets for comparing different detector segmentations. Redefine particles (MCParticle) to which calorimeter energy is assigned: CalorimeterHits rewritten so Cheater works correctly.Especially useful for particles that interact in inner walls of calorimeters.

Sept. 30, 2002Clustering: Cassell,Bower5 Evaluation Clustering analyzer in progress: will ultimately produce efficiency plots, purity plots, and energy resolution for each class of particle. (EM, Charged hadron, Neutral hadron) Full E-flow analysis: produce comparable quantities (t mass resolution?). We’re getting closer. Compare to Cheater.

Sept. 30, 2002Clustering: Cassell,Bower6 Energy Assignments Last year we calibrated the standard detectors using single particles, and produced sampling fractions and resolutions. Using those sampling fractions and resolutions on tt data, more problems.

Sept. 30, 2002Clustering: Cassell,Bower7 SD detector ttbar events

Sept. 30, 2002Clustering: Cassell,Bower8 SD Single 5 GeV Gammas

Sept. 30, 2002Clustering: Cassell,Bower9 Barrel Endcap response difference Correct by assigning different sampling fraction for barrel and endcap. Gismo/Geant4 differences in energy deposition under investigation: Total fraction of photon energy to ionization, fraction of ionization in active material, and effect of magnetic field all different in Geant4.

Sept. 30, 2002Clustering: Cassell,Bower10 SD single 5 GeV gammas

Sept. 30, 2002Clustering: Cassell,Bower11 SD tt events

Sept. 30, 2002Clustering: Cassell,Bower12 SD tt events

Sept. 30, 2002Clustering: Cassell,Bower13 EM Calorimeter response different for hadrons Need separate sampling fraction in EM calorimeter for hadrons and electromagnetic particles. Effect observed last year doing calibrations, (but forgotten by me) and magnitude of effect (40%) from tt data or single particle calibration.

Sept. 30, 2002Clustering: Cassell,Bower14 SD tt events

Sept. 30, 2002Clustering: Cassell,Bower15 Summary By Nov. meeting the beta test lcd.jar file should include an improved cluster finder, and the tools to analyze any cluster finder.
