Plans for the Future

“Partnered” content: PETTT: Publish studies of unique learning environments on Catalyst. Digital Libraries Initiative:Deliver CONTENT software through Catalyst. Educational Outreach:Build out guides for creating distance learning classes.

New content: Improved “Teaching” Section The new Teaching pages will provide specific help for a variety of learning environments, from large lectures to distance learning classes. Support for multimedia content How To guides will take you through every step in creating streaming media.

New Web Tools

MyClass integration: We are working to integrate Catalyst Tools into the “MyClass” project. Instructors will be able to create tools, get class lists, and create Web pages from one simple interface.

SimpleSite: This tool allows instructors to create course Web sites without Web editing software or FTP programs. Only a Web browser is needed.

This tool creates an online collaborative learning environment where students work on problem-based projects. VirtualCase:

Soon, many of our tools will allow instructors to create images that can be directly manipulated on the Web. Dynamic images: Students can even “draw” answers on the Web.

On the horizon: Synchronous chat and community- building tools. WebQ v3.0 with more interactivity and feedback. Online data collection and manipulation tools.

Speed boost: As of March 5 th, 2001 our tools are running on a new server that makes them significantly faster than they were before. We are also working on some software changes that will increase the speed even further.
