2 Chalmers University of Technology The Rolls-Royce Trent Detailed design began in 1988 –Propulsion requirements from Airbus A330 (the Trent 700 engines) –Boeing 777 (Trent 800) This required a larger fan –Inherent flexibility of three-shaft layout => the two fan sizes can be matched with independently scaled cores Meet range of A340-500/600, A3XX, Growth versions of 747

4 Chalmers University of Technology A330 – Airbus Since 1997 the Trent 700 has 85% market share on new A330. ETOPS in 90, 120, 180 exist in demonstrated in-flight shutdown rate of that aircraft's engines is 0.007/1000 engine hours –based on an accumulation of 2 million operating hours in the worldwide fleet.
