3 What Would You Do? Read the selection called “Remembrance Day Message – Students Aged 12-17” On a piece of loose-leaf respond to the following question: Would you be willing to drop everything you have right now to fight for your country? Why or why not? (Respond honestly. Your response will be kept confidential between me and you.)

4 Contests For many, many years, The Royal Canadian Legion has sponsored annual Poster, Essay and Literary Contests that are open to all Canadian school children. There are three categories: Essay Poem Poster

5 Contests You will be required to complete an entry for two of the three. You must complete an essay You can choose to complete either a poem or a poster.

6 Essay/Poem Regulations
Entries will be marked on the basis of originality of thought, expression, presentation, grammar, spelling and Canadian content. Candidates will submit: an essay of not more than 500 words a poem of not more than 32 lines. (minimum 15 lines) Each candidate is to state clearly, on a separate front page, his or her name, address, age, grade, name and address of school and local Legion branch Candidates will use only one side of the page. The essay and poem must be typed in 12 font, Times New Roman

7 Poster Regulations Entries will be no larger than 56cm x 71cm
Entries will be judged on originality, expression of designated subject, drawing and illustration. COMPUTER GENERATED ENTRIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED You may choose to do either: Colour poster: Full colour Black and White: Pencil, Charcoal and/or India Ink

8 Poster Regulations The poster shall reflect REMEMBRANCE with a Canadian theme. If symbols are used, Canadian symbols shall be preeminent. Such national symbols are Canadian and provincial flags, coats of arms, and representative flowers, birds or animals, as well as all forms of Canadian historical and current military dress. Candidates will sign their posters in the lower right-hand corner and attach a piece of paper showing their name, address, age, grade, name and address of the school and the local Legion branch.
