ISIS Katrinebjerg i n t e r a c t i v e s p a c e s. n e t 6 Frank Allan Hansen, fah@daimi.au.dk HyCon Infrastructure The component based framework is a nice platform for application developers …But a bit heavy-weight to host for the average user –DB, Application server, Web server Typical needs: –Post pictures and comments to a Web server –Share postings with friends and family –Browse and view information in the field Geo-spatial browser and moblog?

Anchored moblogs? –Each user has a personal blog to post to –Other users may comment on blog postings –Comments may be distributed over multiple blogs using systems such as Pingback and Trackback –Documents and comments are syndicated and distributed as XML RSS feeds

ISIS Katrinebjerg i n t e r a c t i v e s p a c e s. n e t 11 Frank Allan Hansen, fah@daimi.au.dk Distributed annotations with Pingback Comments may be distributed over multiple blogs using systems such as Pingback and Trackback –Pingback is a method for web authors to request notification when somebody links to one of their documents. Typically, web publishing software will automatically inform the relevant parties on behalf of the user, allowing for the possibility of automatically creating links to referring documents.

ISIS Katrinebjerg i n t e r a c t i v e s p a c e s. n e t 18 Frank Allan Hansen, fah@daimi.au.dk Conclusion RSS is designed to syndicate blogs and comments Augmenting the format with a simple RDF element allows us to anchor RSS-items in context The use of RSS and blog servers gives us: –A distributed, multi-user geo-spatial annotation system Scales as well as the Web –Annotation structures are available both for mobile geo- spatial systems and on the Web –Filtering is for free No central hyperbase with annotation Users simply subscribe to interesting feeds
