Lecture 11 Tuesday, 23 June 2015 1 ENGINEERING GRAPHICS 1E7 Lecture 11: Auxiliary Views

Lecture 11 Tuesday, 23 June 2015 2 Curved Objects Symmetrical reference plane Major axis can be found from direct projection from front view. Minor axis is diameter of the cylinder.

Lecture 11 Tuesday, 23 June 2015 3 Classification of Auxiliary Views Auxiliary views are classified according to the principal dimension of the object shown in the view. 1.Depth/Front auxiliary view 2.Height/Top auxiliary view 3.Width/Side auxiliary view

Lecture 11 Tuesday, 23 June 2015 4 Depth Auxiliary View Any auxiliary view projected from the ‘elevation’ showing depth of object Elevation is the adjacent view, Plan and Side-View are alternative views Direction of sight

Lecture 11 Tuesday, 23 June 2015 5 Height Auxiliary View Any auxiliary view projected from the plan showing height of object Plan is adjacent view, Side-View and Elevation are alternative views Direction of sight

Lecture 11 Tuesday, 23 June 2015 6 Width Auxiliary View Any auxiliary view projected from the side-view showing width of object Side-View is adjacent view, Plan and Elevation are alternative views Direction of sight

Lecture 11 Tuesday, 23 June 2015 7 Revolving a Drawing Auxiliary view can be revolved to the position of a regular view.

Lecture 11 Tuesday, 23 June 2015 8 Other Auxiliary Views Any auxiliary view projected from the primary auxiliary view is secondary auxiliary view

Lecture 11 Tuesday, 23 June 2015 9 Example

Lecture 11 Tuesday, 23 June 2015 10 Example

Lecture 11 Tuesday, 23 June 2015 11 Partial Auxiliary Views

Lecture 11 Tuesday, 23 June 2015 12 Use of Auxiliary Views In descriptive geometry auxiliary views are used to solve engineering problems. The four following auxiliary views are basic to solving problems in descriptive geometry: 1. Auxiliary view to show the true length of a line. 2. Auxiliary view to show the point view of a line. 3. Auxiliary view to show the edge view of a plane. 4. Auxiliary view to show the true size of a plane.
