Consensus Building Discussion of Criteria for Evaluating Proposals Developed in the Brainstorming Groups: 1.Is the proposal workable? 2.Is the proposal acceptable? 3.Is the proposal affordable? 4.Is the proposal plausible? 5.Is the proposal interesting?

PROS CONS -Issue of ongoing relevance -Simulation will help us be better prepared for a future threat -Nuclear disarmament issues have to resolved eventually -Issue of global significance -Important to plan ahead of time before it becomes a real threat in the future -Failure on our part if we allowed Iran to have nuclear weapons in the first place -More important to discuss the other issue of how to prevent Iran from developing nukes -Uninteresting issue -Won’t be feasible for a small group to deal with the issue -Unrealistic -Security doesn’t interest everyone -Will result in stalemate discussion IDEATION STAGE PROPOSAL 1: DISARMAMENT AND IRAN (UNSC to take up the issue of nuclear disarmament )

IDEATION STAGE PROPOSAL 2: REORGANIZATION OF THE UNSC (Deliberating equal representation in the UNSC) PROS CONS - The existing number of students are sufficient to carry out the simulation -Once the topic is decided, the focus can be narrowed down even further -It’s a debatable issue in the present scenario - The reorganization of the UNSC could be carried out by a neutral third party -How do you decide which countries will participate in the simulation? -Feasibility issues. It’s difficult to replicate General Assembly in a simulation

IDEATION STAGE PROPOSAL 3: SHOULD OLYMPICS BE HELD IN ‘NUCLEAR’ IRAN? (International Olympic Committee to discuss boycotting/cancelling/changing venue of games) PROS CONS -Sports is a neutral issue -Could give it a spin by bringing in the Israeli angle(nuclear threat to Israel) - Could discuss sanctions scenario -Feasible model of simulation -Shouldn’t make sports political -IOC can’t take a political stand -IOC cannot impose any decision on member states, it’s ultimately an individual country decision

IDEATION STAGE PROPOSAL 4: LIMITED AIDS VACCINES: WHO GETS IT? (W.H.O. to decide on distribution of limited AIDS treatment) PROS CONS -Less complicated simulation model -Could split teams into countries with highest percentage of AIDS population -Flexible topic -How do you represent all countries in the simulation? -How would you keep the representation diverse? -- W.H.O. does not act/decide on basis of a simulation

IDEATION STAGE PROPOSAL 5: NUCLEAR MELTDOWN IN NORTH KOREA (Discussing a Chernobyl-like scenario) PROS CONS -Simulation will prepare us for crisis management -Observe how different actors involved in the scenario are affected -Opportunity to discuss root cause of the nuclear disaster - Could work within the framework of 6 party talks
