LBJ genuinely wanted a ‘Great Society’ and radical reforms Some hugely significant legislation – Civil Rights, Voting Rights, Medicare etc. But Liberalism based on affluence – people wouldn’t pay for reforms Arrogance abroad – thought US ideals superior and should be extended Cost of Vietnam
