Center for Manufacturing and Design with Lightweight Materials Michigan Technological University 2 Metallic Glasses Result 1 The primary deformation mechanism is the formation of localized shear bands Shear bands are confined to the region surrounding the nanoindentations Hardness and Young’s Modulus have been determined Temperature effects are minimized during the nanoindentation tests Result 2 A strong compositional dependence of mechanical properties have been observed in Zr-Hf based metallic glasses
