Where did it come from anyway?  6 th Century BC: Darius the Great, because he marched everywhere, put a flat bread on his shield and topped it with cheese and dates  79 AD: From the ashes of Mount Vesuvius, evidence of a flat flour cake that was baked and widely eaten was unearthed. Shops that resemble a modern pizzaria was also excavated.  1522: Tomatoes were brought in to Europe from Peru. It was considered poisonous so the poor people of Naples were the only ones to eat it, placing it on flat yeast dough.
