3 3 Second Generation Database Technology Based on relational data model Inappropriate for representing the complex structures which exist in the real world

4 4 Third Generation Database Technology Object-relational and object model Allow more information to be represented by incorporating the facility of object- oriented programming languages Users can extend the type of system to include new types specially tailored to their applications
