Latin Magiscule part of the Codex Vercellensis, scribed by Eusebius, the Bishop of Vercelli in northern Italy, in the year 370 A.D. This section contains the Gospel of John, 16:23-30.

Latin Cursive Unlike the Latin book hand, this cursive hand is rather difficult for a modern audience to read. Although the letters are the same, the cursive style of writing uses different strokes to form letter shapes which are drastically different than those in the book hand. In the first line, the Roman numeral 12 is visible (XII with a line across the top) followed by "K. Martias". Latin Documentary Text (Acknowledgement of Debt) 2nd Century AD Caesarea, Mauretania P.Mich.inv 4301

Latin Miniscule Illuminated Manuscript
Codex: Latin Book of Hours by anonymous - varies from 6th to 15th century songs This luminous image hails from a Latin book of hours – an illuminated medieval manuscript that features a range of text and illustrations for Catholic worship – and the calligraphy is that of an experienced 15th-century hand. This decorative fragment belongs to a codex that was likely made in France or present-day Belgium. This image can be found in Latin Book of Hours at UBC Library's Rare Books and Special Collections (Vertical File 274). Courtesy of Rare Books and Special Collections © UBC Library

Vergil’s Aeneid Vergil (or Virgil) Portrait From the 5th C. Vergilius Romanus Manuscript This image is an excerpt from the Vergilius Vaticanus, which is an illuminated manuscript containing fragments of Vergil's Aeneid. It was made in Rome at approximately 400 AD, and is one of the oldest sources of the text of the Aeneid. It is now located in the Biblioteca Apostolica in the Vatican.
