Remodece 3rd Project Meeting 29-30 January 2007, Prague First results of the survey on electricity consumption in Germany Barbara Schlomann, Fraunhofer ISI
2
Realization of the survey Oct. 2006: Translation of the common REMODECE questionnaire Nov. 2006: Distribution of the questionnaire by mail to 700 representative German households from the GfK household panel; 545 questionnaires returned (response rate: 78 %) Dec. 2006: Survey results available 1.Raw data delivered by GfK in ASCII format, based on the structure of the German questionnaire. 2.First analysis of the raw data in order to produce summary results for all questions in order to fill-in the summary results, we used the original structure of the questions in the common questionnaire.
3
Survey: general impression High response rate (78 %). But: use of an existing household panel. On the whole: Good quality of the answers, high percentage could answer most of the questions. "Problematic" questions: - A4: Electricity consumption in Euro and kWh not plausible values have not been taken into account ( > 400 usable questionnaires) - Energy efficiency class of electrical appliances: only 30 – 35 % could answer. - I1/2 General questions on the attitude towards energy saving: Way of ranking seemed to be very difficult to understand for many households only "right" ranking was taken into account (57% of all answers). Remark on a questionnaire:"silly question"

Information sources on electricity savings Other sources: energy utilties (very important in Germany) education shops etc. (when buying the appliance)
13
Open questions 1.Household details (module A): definitions? Education level: rather broad definition most of the households in Germany in the two highest groups; university + college degree? Type of building: single = only 1-family houses or 1 / 2 family houses? 2.Homegenious presentation of the results? Our choice: in most cases: results presented in % of valid answers in some cases: average values (consumption in €/kWh; no. of lamps, ranking questions) 3.Which data are needed for the common analysis of the survey results? WP 2/3/5?
