JUDGE NOT, CONDEMN NOT, BUT CONSENT NOT
Text: JOHN 8:1-11 Intro: Despite God’s command not to judge for us not to judge, Christians are judgmental. There might be those who do not judge, who do not condemn, but they consent to peoples’ sin. AIM: For us not to judge others because of their sin, condemn them not, BUT CONSENT NOT TO THEIR SINS.
3
JUDGE: To form an opinion or estimation of after careful consideration: CONDEMN: To express strong disapproval of: To pronounce judgment against ... CONSENT: to agree to give approval, assent, or permission. I. THE MAIN REASON OF JUDGING NOT -Matthew 7:1-5 We ourselves got a plank in our own eye We have bigger or greater sins than them He wants us to see our faults not of the others He wants us to repent and make it our business Others’ sins is none of our business
4
II. CAN WE JUDGE? YES- I Corinthians 6:1-3 1Cr 6:1 Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unrighteous, and not before the saints? 1Cr 6:2 Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters? 1Cr 6:3 Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more, things that pertain to this life? 1Cr 6:4 If then you have judgments concerning things pertaining to this life, do you appoint those who are least esteemed by the church to judge?
5
1Cr 6:5 I say this to your shame
1Cr 6:5 I say this to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you, not even one, who will be able to judge between his brethren? 1Cr 6:6 But brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers! We can judge on things pertaining to this life Not life and death-Ex. Numbers 15:32-36 We can judge on small matters Exodus 18:21 "Moreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
6
Exodus 18:22 "And let them judge the people at all times
Exodus 18:22 "And let them judge the people at all times. Then it will be that every great matter they shall bring to you, but every small matter they themselves shall judge. So it will be easier for you, for they will bear the burden with you. III. SCRIBES AND PHARISEES ISSUE NOT JUST WITH THE ADULTEROUS WOMAN- Vs 3-7 They were not patiently listening to Him while He was teaching They disturb Him and made another topic Deut 22:22 "If a man is found lying with a woman married to a husband, then both of them shall die—the man that lay with the woman, and the woman; so you shall put away the evil from Israel. They should have brought the man as well
7
The main reason was to put away evil from Israel.
Deut 17:12 "Now the man who acts presumptuously and will not heed the priest who stands to minister there before the LORD your God, or the judge, that man shall die. So you shall put away the evil from Israel. Deut 17:13 "And all the people shall hear and fear, and no longer act presumptuously. Deu 21:20 "And they shall say to the elders of his city, 'This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious; he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.' Deu 21:21 "Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones; so you shall put away the evil from among you, and all Israel shall hear and fear.
8
They did it so not to put away evil but to test Him to have something to accuse Him
Luke 20:20 So they watched Him, and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, that they might seize on His words, in order to deliver Him to the power and the authority of the governor. If He did pronounce judgement, they will say He is inconsistent as He accepted the publicans and harlot They will accuse Him to the Roman governor of exercising judicial power. John 18:38 Pilate said to Him, "What is truth?" And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, "I find no fault in Him at all. He is overriding the Roman authorities
9
He is taking authority over the high priest
If He did not pronounced judgement, they will treat Him as enemy of the Law of Moses They will accuse Him of destroying the law and the prophets. They will accused Him as a friend to sinners A favourer of sin IV. JESUS ACT OF IGNORING THEM BY STOOPING DOWN AND WRITING ON THE GROUND-V 6-9 As though He did not hear them It is usual for wise men, when they were very thoughtful concerning any thing, to write it. Christ by this teaches us to be slow to speak Jam 1:19 So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;
10
When difficult cases are proposed to us, He is teaching us not to react and have burst of anger
and when provocations are given us, to pause and consider before we reply; Think twice before we speak once: The heart of the wise studies to answer. When they continued to ask Him, He told them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” He was dealing with the Scribes and Pharisees as the accuser Deut 17:7 The hands of the witnesses shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterward the hands of all the people. So thou shalt put the evil away from among you.

V. PEOPLES’ RESPOND TO HIS WORD-V 9
Those who heard it was convicted by their conscience Act 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" They went out one by one beginning with the oldest VI. NOBODY CONDEMNED HER AND SO WAS JESUS-v 10-11 Nobody condemned her because all were guilty Jesus told her, “GO AND SIN NO MORE” He did not condemned but He did not consent He did not agree, He did not permit or allow the woman to keep doing her sins He stopped her from doing it again
12
VII. HOW CAN WE STOP PEOPLE FROM DOING A SIN AGAIN?
Tell them not to Show them their sins Pro 27:5 Open rebuke is better Than love carefully concealed. Mat 18:15 "Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother. Mat 18:16 "But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that 'by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.' Mat 18:17 "And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector.

2Th 3:14 And if anyone does not obey our word in this epistle, note that person and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed. 2Th 3:15 Yet do not count him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother. Note that person Do not keep company with him that he may be ashamed Yet do not count him as an enemy Admonish him as a brother 1. To reprove gently but earnestly 2. To counsel (another) against something to be avoided ...

CHALLENGE: DO YOU JUDGE NOT? DO YOU CONDEMN NOT? DO YOU CONSENT NOT? WHAT DID YOU DO WHEN YOU SAY YOU DID NOT CONSENT? CONCLUSION: John 8:11 She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said to her, "Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more."
15
Who am I, that the Lord of all the earth Would care to know my name Would care to feel my hurt Who am I, that the Bright and Morning Star Would choose to light the way For my ever wandering heart Not because of who I am But because of what You've done Not because of what I've done But because of who You're
16
I am a flower quickly fading Here today and gone tomorrow A wave tossed in the ocean A vapour in the wind Still You hear me when I'm calling Lord, You catch me when I'm falling And You've told me who I am I am Yours, I am Yours
17
Who Am I, that the eyes that see my sin Would look on me with love and watch me rise again Who Am I, that the voice that calmed the sea Would call out through the rain And calm the storm in me I am Yours Whom shall I fear Whom shall I fear 'Cause I am Yours I am Yours
