9. Science and a sense of place final project Lesson Plan : Comparing and contrasting photographs Objectives : -Students will study and record observations from a series of photographs. -Students will record similarities and differences in photographs to determine any patterns -Students will attempt to identify time period, location, climate ect … of scene in pictures -Students will predict and journal future changes to scene in photograph Materials : Magnifying glass, copies of all 5-6 photos for each group, digital camera, laptop computer, monitor for power-point presentation Procedure : Students will be placed in groups of 3-4. Student group will receive 1 photo taken in 1913 of intersection their neighborhood. Teacher will instruct groups to examine photo carefully (use magnifying glass if needed), record and report observations to class. Student group will receive another photo taken from the same location in 1929 and contrast and compare. Student groups will repeat procedure with photo taken in 1940 ’ s, and 1950 ’ s. Students groups will be asked to identify specific location of photos. Follow-up:
