1 J1 part 1 REVISION PRESENTATION
Christian beliefs about the nature of God: the Father (Luke 11:1-4), the Creator (Genesis 1:1-2:3), unity and trinity (monotheism).

2 It is a MODEL of how to pray!
God as Father! The Lord’s Prayer Why is it important? 1. It comes from JESUS! 2. It is a MODEL of how to pray! 3. It tells us what GOD is like!

3 Our Father, who art in heaven God is our Father
Closeness of relationship can be limiting?? Hallowed be thy name You are special! the Father is King “no more pain, no more tears, no more suffering” REVELATION 21 build it here and now! Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

4 Give us this day our daily bread The Father is the provider
Give us what we need - not what we want! Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us The Father forgives Help us to be reconcilers echo of THE GOLDEN RULE Do to others etc.

5 We agree! AMEN The Father guides and defends
And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil The Father guides and defends Help us to deal with the things that lead us into sin which damages our relationship with God AMEN We agree!

6 Why is the Creation story important?
God as Creator! Why is the Creation story important? reminding us of the sanctity of life reminding us of our responsibility to each other reminding us of our responsibility to the environment

7 The belief that God is three in one Father Son Holy Spirit
UNITY The state of being one! The belief that God is one! Believing in one God is MONOTHEISM TRINITY The belief that God is three in one Father Son Holy Spirit

9 Why is believing in the Trinity important?
It summarises what God is like – Father, Son and Holy Spirit It shows us that God can be experienced in different ways

12 Why is the Virgin Birth important?
LITERALIST LIBERAL Mary was a virgin! Jesus was SPECIAL! Why is the Virgin Birth important? it proves Jesus is the Son of God i.e. how special he was it shows the power of the Holy Spirit (all things are possible to God!) it shows that God intervenes in human history it shows the importance of human’s response to God’s invitation (Mary said “Your will be done!”)

Jesus physically rose from the dead! Jesus lives on in some way - even now! LITERALIST LIBERAL Why is the Resurrection important? it proves Jesus is the Son of God it is the ultimate victory of good over evil it shows there is life after death

ASCENSION Jesus ascended into Heaven He will come again to JUDGE. How will we be judged? how we have treated others how we have used our talents.

26 Why is salvation important?
Without salvation, humans are separated from God Because of salvation the way to heaven is again open for human beings Without salvation, there is no prospect of life after death Because salvation gives us a reason to live good lives

27 What does all this mean in practical terms?
1. Christians should have faith in God’s willingness to forgive 2. Christians should repent of their sins 3. Christians should forgive others 4. Christians should be reconcilers (build bridges between people.)

34 LOVING GOD Why???? God is our creator and gives us life
God loves us so much that he sent Jesus to save us Jesus loves us so much he died to pay for our sins Jesus is the perfect example of God’s love Jesus lived a life of love - he healed the sick (Mark 1), showed concern for the poor.

35 LOVING OUR NEIGHBOUR Should be shown in a practical way : as in The Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10) Should be shown to all as in The Parable of the Sheep and Goats (Matthew 25)

36 X REMEMBER Loving others is a decision not an emotion.
God’s love is referred to as GRACE (AGAPE) this is love which is not deserved but given anyway.
