10/26/2003By: Strobridge & Sulkoski2 Background System used for educational purpose. A fan is used to provide airflow for the testing of small wind rotors. The current system used is insufficient & inadequate. Consists of: Lego generator & leds to measure power output. The channel tube is a box shape made out of scrap material.

10/26/2003By: Strobridge & Sulkoski3 Problem Design & build a wind rotor testing system. Needs to be: Capable of testing wind rotors up to 30 cm in diameter. Automated, so the user can obtain measurements of rotor power output to wind speed.

10/26/2003By: Strobridge & Sulkoski5 Concept #1 Fixed rotor & blade pitch. Rotor is fixed pointing straight into the wind. Blades are at a fixed angular pitch.
6
10/26/2003By: Strobridge & Sulkoski6 Concept #2 Adjustable rotor direction. Rotor and generator assembly are allowed to be turned in & out of the wind.
7
10/26/2003By: Strobridge & Sulkoski7 Concept #3 Adjustable rotor angle & blade pitch. Rotor and generator assembly are allowed to be turned in & out of the wind. Blade pitch is allowed to be changed for finding angle for max power output.

Max adjustability / educational use. Cons Scope. One direction. Non-“real world” environment. One blade pitch. More moving parts. Base rotor design. Many moving parts.
