LAr ROD Status - Arno Straessner2 Recent News from ROD Boards Finalizing the purchasing of components, only a few items missing: –optical receivers from Taiwan –24000 capacitors “lost” at CERN –remaining 225 PCBs The price enquiry procedure for the assembly of the 245 RODs is finished and we received 2 offers: –a french company (ARDELEC) : 150000 CHF –an italian company (Seisystem): 43000 CHF Daniel and myself visited Seisystem Company made a good impression Decision: assembly will be done in Italy Seisystem started to prepare the mask for the soldering The components and PCB boards are on the way to Italy

LAr ROD Status - Arno Straessner3 Revised production schedule We asked to mount 2 boards as soon as possible, including optical receivers: expected for end of January Annie and someone from LAPP need to go to Seisystem to set up a electronic test system (JTAG) used to control quality directly after production 18 more boards of the pre-series will be assembled on the automatic machines If the 2 first boards pass also the tests on the Geneva test bench the pre- series will be completed Then the pre-series will be tested If the boards are ok the remaining 225 boards will be built

LAr ROD Status - Arno Straessner4 Quality Control 1 st step at manufacturer: JTAG test 2 nd step at Geneva and LAPP Annecy: –Static tests: accessing the active components on the board –Dynamic tests: sending data through the ROD Currently working to finalize software for test bench Static tests for motherboard are already included Dynamic tests are being developed → interaction with LAPP Hardware setup at Geneva nearly complete: –Crate, VME CPU, optical cables, TTC modules, trigger module, transition module, Slink and PC readout –We had a data injector for tests before Christmas –We will get our own injector end of January → complete data flow

LAr ROD Status - Arno Straessner5 Status of Other Items ROD cooling plates are being produced: 20 are already soldered Cooling water connectors need to be glued – they are ordered ROD cooling station for USA15 is being built at CERN Expected to be completed by end of March, including cooling manifolds Cooling drawers need to be build: lower priority than RODs 2 more ROD crates and power supplies arrived at CERN They have the final design: need 3 people to install them in the rack (or 2 strong people) 13 ROD crates are ordered for May 2005 3 older ROD crates need to be updated later

LAr ROD Status - Arno Straessner6 Summary The ROD project is advancing and on schedule We are looking forward to the first boards from series production Now we need to think about installation issues The general installation plan for the hardware of the LArg ROD system needs to be developed/revised
