Andrew Schroeder Networking Aspects of Cloud Computing

What is Cloud Computing? Data and information shared by all devices Physical location need not be known Easily access files from anywhere on any device Ex. Apple iCloud, Google Docs

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVXxoATWji M&feature=related

Why is it Important? Work anywhere anytime -Access your work files on the go from anywhere Computer crashes become less problematic -Information not actually stored on hard drive Software is easier to upgrade -No more rebooting to install updates Saves companies time and money -Less time on updates and installs -Don’t have to buy servers anymore Cloud computing is the future of the Internet

Issues Privacy -3 rd party organizations have access to data -Sensitive information could be sold to others Security -Credit card numbers and social security numbers stolen -Modify or even delete user’s data Compliance -More expensive to meet standards Abuse -Starting point for massive attacks

Cloud Computing Layers Client -Hardware and software relies on application delivery Application -Delivers software as a service over the Internet Platform -Facilitates deployment of applications over the cloud Infrastructure -Deliver infrastructure, storage, and networking Server -Hardware/software that delivers cloud services

Personal Cloud All of your data and information in one cloud -Music, movies, pictures, documents Available to you anywhere at anytime Accessible on any of your devices -Laptop, cell phone, tablet, desktop, Ipod Stored on a server along with thousands of other personal clouds Can choose what information to be in public cloud or private cloud

Private Cloud vs. Public Cloud

Other Clouds Community Cloud -Shared cloud among user’s with common interest -Ex: Family, companies, friends -Allows cloud members to quickly share information and data Hybrid Cloud -Composition of 2 or more clouds (private, community, or public) -Each cloud remains a unique entity, but are bound together

Mobile Cloud Computing Combination between mobile networks and cloud computing Mobile devices need not be powerful because data is not stored on them Apple’s App Store has shown success for future of mobile cloud computing. -$3.9 billion of revenue from applications Mobile Commerce, Learning, Health Care, Entertainment

Conclusion Cloud computing is an exciting future Communicates and share with friends and family easier than ever Never worry about losing your data again Have all of your devices synched at all times Access to your files 24/7 on any device
