3 1. CLASSIFICATION: AP-006-089 2. TITLE OF REFERRAL: Discontinuance of Behavioral Sciences Major and Criminal Justice Minor will Move to the Sociology Major. 3. BACKGROUND: The Psychology and Sociology Department is the largest in CLASS. As part of an overall enrollment management plan, the Department proposes two acts; to discontinue the Behavioral Sciences major and to move the Criminal Justice Minor to the Sociology major. Current students in the Behavioral Sciences major will be able to finish their degree. 4.RECOMMENDED RESOURCES: Laurie Roads, Dale Turner.

4 5. DISCUSSION: The Psychology and Sociology Department is made up of faculty who have expertise in either discipline. There are no faculty specifically identified as “Behavioral Sciences.” The Behavioral Sciences major reflects the previous name of the Department. It is an interdisciplinary major drawn from Psychology and Sociology. And since the Criminal Justice is part of the major but not deleted, the Department proposes to move it to the Sociology major. No new courses are being proposed and no adverse effect on the Department or the students are foreseen. Rather it streamlines the offerings of the Department and helps the enrollment management. The proposed action helps the faculty focus their energy on the core disciplines in the Department, manage their growth and better serve their students. 6.RECOMMENDATION: The Academic Programs Committee recommends approval of referral AP-006-089 Discontinuance of Behavioral Sciences Major and Criminal Justice Minor will Move to the Sociology Major.
