2. Current situation The vast majority of Polish Virtua users are in release 46.x Cracow Consortium has already been testing 48.x and they are planning to migrate to 48.x in August 2008. The rest of Polish libraries have plans to migrate afterwards.

3. The need VTLS has always encouraged customers to move to the newest version. Release 46 is no longer supported by Development. No bug fixes and certainly no enhancements will be implemented. Virtua users’ should benefit from new functionalities and bug fixes included in latest releases.

4. Backward compatibility Polish users no longer need to migrate all at the same time. Since 46.7.2 two different releases of Virtua client can be run in the same machine simultaneously. The following has been tested: 46.7.2 – 48.x 46.7.2 – 49.x 48.x – 49.x

5. Options: 48.x The first release of 48 (48.0.3) was officially announced on February 2007. VTLS released other versions of 48 including many bug fixes. The last 48 release that has been build is 48.1.7 but development is already working on a 48.1.8. Release 48 is very stable and tested by some of your colleagues.

6. Options: 49.x NOT Oxford release, it will be a general release available to ALL VTLS customers. Includes many new and interesting functionalities. Release 49.x is very stable. We are planning to release 49.5 in August 2008.

7. Options: 50.x Pre-release: available in August 2008 for the IFLA Conference and in September for the EUG Meeting. General release: planned for Winter 2009 It will include several customizations promised to customers. And the most voted enhancements from the recent “Enhancement Voting Session”.

8. Strategy You DON’T need to migrate all at the same time. You need to decide when is the best moment to upgrade. Based on that you need to decide to which release you will migrate. The decision should be made well in advance so we can provide you with the software to perform testing. VTLS and the Polish customers will agree on the duration of the testing period and the dates to perform the upgrades.
