Principles/guidelines of Appropriate Appearances  Consistency  Allow user to control the interaction  Do not use too many colours: use pastel colours  Keep interface Simple  Indicate passage time e.g. hourglass  Indicate visited areas i.e. Fade areas  Use familiar metaphors e.g. bin to show recycle area  Use of Graphics and attractive displays  Use multimedia applications but limit use of sound
