Principles/guidelines of Appropriate Appearances Consistency Allow user to control the interaction Do not use too many colours: use pastel colours Keep interface Simple Indicate passage time e.g. hourglass Indicate visited areas i.e. Fade areas Use familiar metaphors e.g. bin to show recycle area Use of Graphics and attractive displays Use multimedia applications but limit use of sound

Conclusion While designing appropriate appearances on interfaces consider the: User i.e. person using the interface Customer/client i.e. person/organisation that requires it
