3 Problem Statement Minimize power, timing and area requirements for design of FIR filter Architectural improvements Improvements in Synthesis stage using Design Analyser from Synopsys Improvements in Placement and Routing using Seultra from cadence

4 Optimizations Combine all calculations into one stage This reduces 3 calc stages to one. Reduces latency from 5 cycles to 3 Increases critical path time Combine all multiplication into combinatorial network (Ack: previous presentation on 16-Tap FIR filter) Reduce 6-stages to 4-stages: reduce the 3 calc stages in datapath to 1 stage.
