6 First Task Force Meeting June 6, 1990 Nancy Cline: “…the pressing need to identify, organize and access information resources was the primary motivation that led to the formation of the Coalition. To accomplish this feat, though, there is the underlying premise that the three communities can collectively influence the direction of the NREN and how scholars and researchers will access information resources in the years that lie ahead.” (Meeting transcript)

7 First Task Force Meeting June 6, 1990 Jerome Yavarkovsky: “It’s fairly obvious that online publishing would be a dramatic and radical transformation in the way that scholarship is conducted and reported. Its impact would extend from university tenuring and promotion criteria to learned society conference arrangements and proceedings, to the management of the publishing industry. In the universities, faculty and administration must accept the legitimacy of electronic publishing.” (Meeting transcript)
