1
Changes in Antarctic Sea Ice Autum Leigh Rotach
2
A Key Feature of the Earth Ice cover serves as a critical habitat for many marine species and the cold water below it is an important part of ocean circulation patterns that also affect the weather.
3
What is happening? Sea ice increase? Study covers time period 1979-1999 ENSO found to affect sea ice cover as well Original assumptions are no longer valid
4
Natural Variation Antarctic Ice Sheet changes in size over the course of a yearchanges Fluctuations occur on a seasonal basis depending on the amount of sunlight reaching the continent
5
Summary Antarctic Ice overall is increasing rather than decreasing according to a new study undergone by NASA. Some areas show significant melting while in others the ice has advanced. We cannot use current evidence and information to accurately predict future patterns of ice growth or retreat.
