NuMI Beam Study ν e component the LE beam configuration Benjamin Brown University of Pittsburgh
2
NuMI LE Configuration Contains ν μ, ν e ν μ absolute flux ~ 8.6 * 10 16 / m 2 year (@ 2.5 * 10 20 PoT/year) ν e contamination absolute flux about %1
3
Predicted CC Events For the Fe configuration, EDDS absorber mass ~0.4 tons, for Pb, ~0.55 tons (@ 2.5 * 10 20 PoT/year) Pb gives: 1500 CC e / year 110K CC μ / year Fe gives 1100 CC e / year 76K CC μ / year
4
ν e Flux Measurement Look for electron production spectrum (presently, as generated by MC)
5
Electron Spectrum
6
Electron tan(θ) distribution
7
ν e expected flux
8
Summary Almost all electrons have E >~ 100 MeV Almost all electrons are forward scattered. ~60% with tan(θ) < 0.4
9
Conclusion If we are restricted to electrons with: a) tan(θ) < 0.4 b) electron id efficiency of about 90% c) Pb configuration d) lose 10% due to e exiting the downstream edge of the brick Then, in 1 year, we can expect a signal of ~700 events. (@ 2.5 * 10 20 PoT/year)
