Analysis of the soft response of pn and MOS with a sample of blazars Silvano Molendi (IASF-MI)

Motivation Motivation Evaluate impact of mos eff. areas changeEvaluate impact of mos eff. areas change This is a major changeThis is a major change Impact on pn/mos cross calibration is possibly largest ever.

New MOS vs PN New MOS vs PN Very good agreement btwn MOS and PN!

X-ray vs 21cm N H X-ray vs 21cm N H old new
16
X-ray vs 21cm N H X-ray vs 21cm N H Excluded all objects with excised piled-up core old new
17
Very low N H objects Very low N H objects There are 6/17 objects with N H < 10 20 Soft excess ? Possible for flat spectrum objects, unlikely for steep spectrum objects
18
Soft excess? Soft excess?

X-ray vs 21cm NH X-ray vs 21cm NH Exclude all objects with excised piled-up core
20
Summary Summary 1.New arfs result in smaller N H ~2x10 20 2.For the fist time we have good agreement btwn MOS and PN 3.The blazar exercise failed its major goal, it did not help us in establishing which of the two arfs is better.
