The FAP Delivery System Drew Hayes & Nathan Hua University of the Pacific Stockton, CA Team: Five-Finger Discount

Overview/Outline Background Criteria\Constraints\Objectives Preliminary Designs Refinement\Final Design Results Conclusion Acknowledgments

Background Employed to build a PFADS Launch FAP over wall Get FAP to Refugees

PYTHON-INFESTED JUNGLE BOUNDARY 4 in 4 ft 8 ft START LINE FAP TARGET SPOT 6 ft 2 in 3.5 ft 10 ft 7 ft FAP TARGET SPOT START LINE 1 ft 2 ft FAP TARGET SPOT TRACK 1 TRACK 2 Piranha Infested River 3.5 ft 10 ft 6' 2" Wall 10 ft PYTHON-INFESTED JUNGLE BOUNDARY Overview of Course

Constraints 18” x 18” x 18” dimensions 10 pound weight limit Self Launching FAP over the wall No parts go past the 4” barrier

Criteria Maximize Accuracy Minimize Weight Minimize Size Increase Figure of Merit

Objectives of the Project Group dynamics Increase presentation skills Following the design process

Preliminary Designs Roller blade wheels roll too quickly, wood too heavy

Preliminary Designs Not enough force with elastic Batteries are too heavy, Nicrome wire wouldn’t support the resistance of the arm

Final Design Materials: Bailing Wire Steel Hinges Pull Springs Concrete wheels PVC pipe

Refinement Added arm limiter Used eyebolt and J shaped rod for push rod trigger Took off wheels and added sliders Added stabilizer bar to arm

Final PFADS The Five-Finger Discount

Results Weight (lbs) Length (in.) Height (in.) Width (in.) FOM (points) Rank (#) 718.258.7518.0046.5928

Results (cont.) Powerful enough to launch over the wall Reliable trigger Strong Dimensional Non- Compliance Excessively Powerful Pros…Cons…

Improvements Make the dimensions fit the constraints Decrease power to throwing arm Shorten restrictor cable Design more effective sliders

Conclusions We followed the design process and came up with a design which was reliable and successfully fired the FAP over the wall consistently We optimized weight, but not dimensions to create a reliable PFADS Our PFADS was overpowered which could have been adjusted by using different springs
