3 HISTORICAL INFORMATION HISTORICAL INFORMATION  1900 – Optical-mechanical department was founded in the Prince Nikolay Industrial School in Saint-Petersburg  1917 – Optical-mechanical department was reorganized in the independent Optical-Mechanical Technical College  1930 – Optical-Mechanical Technical College was reorganized in the Leningrad Institute of Fine Mechanics and Optics  1994 – the Institute received the status of technical university and became Saint-Petersburg State Institute of Fine Mechanics and Optics (Technical University)  2003 – the Institute changed the name on Saint-Petersburg State University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (ITMO)

25 Main directions of research Analytical study and numerical modeling of the femtosecond supercontinuum generation; Analytical study and numerical modeling of a few-cycle pulses self-focusing; Investigation of low-coherent interferometry; Theoretical and experimental investigations of dynamic holograms recording in fullerene solutions; Theoretical investigation of electromagnetic properties of the microwave photonic band-gap materials formed by periodic 3D lattices of dielectric or metallic inclusions; etc.
