Types of Assessment Formative –Assessment for learning; see how much students have learned & plan for the future Summative –Assessment of learning for evaluation purposes; at conclusion of learning

Questions for Assessors What is sufficient and revealing evidence? What is realistic? How does one distinguish who understands? What performance tasks are essential? What criteria will determine success?

Curricular Assessment Consider assessments that can be used more than once for a variety of learning activities Incorporate assessment into the learning process to inform students of their learning Align & articulate assessments based on what students should know and be able to do

Rubrics Describe criteria used for evaluating performance-based assessments –Create rubrics to assess the big picture rather than small details of knowledge

Begin to work Choose a course/grade level Identify your standard(s) to be addressed –What should students know and be able to do? –How will you assess? What are your criteria for assessment?
