Centennial Celebration 1903-2003 In 2003, Western Michigan University celebrated its 100 th year since founding in 1903. The university, however, has not always been known as it is today– previous names include Western State Normal School, Western State Teachers College, Western Michigan College of Education, and Western Michigan College. It was in 1957 that the school adopted its current name. When Western first opened its doors to students there were 117 students enrolled from 13 Michigan counties. Today there are nearly 30,000 students enrolled from all over the U.S. and over 100 other countries.

Why it is so good to be a Bronco… *Western's Medallion Scholarship Program is among the largest merit- based scholarship programs in the nation, offering four-year awards of $32,000. *Western is the only college or university in the world with its own Boeing 747. Thanks to Northwest Airlines, WMU Aviation students can use this airplane for hands-on learning. *WMU is widely known for its College of Education. It is the fourth largest producer of teachers, administrators, counselors, and other education personnel in the nation.

About Me My name is Jessica Church and I am in my third year here at Western Michigan University. I am majoring in Elementary Education with a focus in Early Childhood Development. When not in classes I work at Hallmark and enjoy spending time with friends. I am originally from Battle Creek so I can visit family as often as I like (although my brother recently graduated and moved to Detroit so that is a bit of a drive.) I Love My Music! I constantly have my stereo turned on. Even when I’m doing homework I need to have some background music… my tunes of choice are Simple Plan (pictured right), Good Charlotte, and SR71.
