3 Overview of The 6 th Framework Programme FP6 is a collection of the actions at EU level to fund and promote research and technological development. Two main strategic objectives: Strengthen the competitiveness of the EU economy Serve the objectives of other EU policies Thematic priorities and instruments are chosen on the background of these objectives.

9 What’s in it for SMEs ? Old and New instruments (IP, NoE, STREP) 1.7 billion Euro (15 % of 11.825 MEuro) This is where the majority of the money is! From start or as a response to calls during IP or NoE Collective Research & Co-operative Research (CRAFT) 430 million Euro

10 Collective Research,1 Objective: To expand the knowledge base of large communities of SMEs and thus improve their general standard and competitiveness. Can address any subject across the whole field of Science and Technology. Participants: At least: 1 European Industrial Association/grouping or 2 independent National Industrial Associations/groupings In addition both of the following: At least 2 independent RTD Performers, from Member States or Associated States IPR: Ownership to the results to the industry association or industry groupings

11 Collective Research,2 Indicative budget: 100 million Euro Projects: Typically between 2 to 5 million Euro and a duration of 2 to 3 years Activities: Research and Innovation (EC contribution up to 50%) Training (EC contribution up to 100%) Consortium Management (EC contribution up to 100% - max. 7% of EC contribution) Promotion and dissemination (EC-contribution up to 50%) Call: End 2002 Dead-line: Step one 19/3-2003, step two 10/9-2003

12 Co-operative Research (CRAFT),1 Objective: To support SMEs to respond to their needs for research and innovation Can address any subject across the whole field of Science and Technology. Participants: At least: 3 independent SMEs (established in two different Member States or Associated States, of which at least one shall be established in a Member State or Associated Candidate Country) 2 independant RTD performers In addition: Other enterprises and end-users may participate to the project IPR: Ownership of results to SMEs

13 Co-operative Research (CRAFT),2 Indicative budget: 295 million Euro Projects: Typically between 0.5 and 2 million Euro and a duration of 1 to 2 years Activities: Research and Innovation (EC contribution up to 50%) Consortium Management (EC contribution up to 100% - max. 7% of total EC contribution) Call: End 2002 Dead-line: 27/3-2003
