ROCK CYCLE Processes by which all rocks can be formed from and can form all other rocks. Actually a “Rock Web”.

IGNEOUS ROCKS (from rock to magma) MELTING –heat from Earth’s core –Changes rock from solid to liquid MAGMA –intermediate –molten/melted rock below earth’s surface

IGNEOUS ROCKS (from magma to rock) MAGMA COOLING –Temperature drops and rock changes from liquid to solid Result = igneous rock

INTRUSIVE INGNEOUS ROCKS MAGMA COOLS INSIDE EARTH –cools slowly –mineral grains have time to grow very large –Can see individual mineral grains (crystals) in rocks

EXTRUSIVE INGEOUS ROCKS LAVA COOLS ON EARTH’S SURFACE –cools quickly –small to no mineral grains present –Rock appears to be all one color
