Statistics 1/8 women will get breast cancer 80% have no family history of cancer 20% has a family member with some germline history of cancer 50% are caused by a mutation in either BRCA1 or BRCA2 Notes: - Risk developing cancer averages about 13% with a BRCA2 mutation about 60-80% - Risk of developing ovarian cancer 1.5% with a BRCA2 mutation about 15-27% -About 70 to 80% of all familial ovarian cancers are due to mutant germline alleles of BRCA1 and 2
