What is it? Infection caused by pork tapeworm – Found in the muscles, heart, and the Eyes. – Also found in the brain it is called Neurocysticercosis (NCC)

How do you get it? Poor Hygiene Eating pork that's infected Traveling Auto infection

Signs and Symtomps In the Muscles: – Lumps under the skin The Eyes: – Blurry or disturbed vision, detachment of the retina. The Brain: – Sizure, headache, swelling of the brain, Death. Ect.

Diagonis/Test MRI CT Scan. Blood tests X-ray

Prevention/Risk factors Avoid eating raw or undercooked pork and other meats Wash Hands Raw vegetables and fruits Hispanic/Asian population Travel to endemic areas

Treatment Prehospital – Airway, anticonvilsants, narcan. Emergency Department – Treated with anti-parasitic drugs in a combination with anti-imflammatory drugs. – Anti-conconvulsants, and Corticosteroids. Surgey

Summary Infection Rare in the US but is increasing Many S/S depend on what area is effected NCC is the leading cause of adult-onset seizures. Treatment differs how bad the infection is.
