4 Land Use & Sustainable Development Subcommittee Overview of Current Pesticide Practices Main campus fertilized twice yearly; Athletic fields 3-4 times. Pesticides and herbicides applied only curatively (not preventatively) and spot-applied (not blanket-applied). All applications done at night to minimize exposure risk, signs posted as legally required. Agreement by Extension scientists that UConn is using best practices. 6 Land Use & Sustainable Development Subcommittee Campus Bike Plan: April 14, Campus Support Ride The Support Ride Demonstrated: Need for a safe, convenient bicycle network on campus and to local destinations. Need for bike lanes, signage, storage racks, etc. Bicycling at UConn is a viable, healthy and clean transportation alternative. A campus bicycle plan should be part of UConn’s Master Plan for a more vibrant campus. 8 Land Use & Sustainable Development Subcommittee Green Building/LID Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Bike Plan Landfill Remediation Project Green Building/Low Impact Development Campus Trails Campus Planning and Site Review Invasive species subcommittee met in March to discuss monitoring and evaluation of Low Impact Design elements in new UConn projects as a first step, OEP will conduct photographic documentation of football complex swales and rain gardens

Creation of a Standing Committee of the University Senate related to Campus Planning which would have clearly defined decision making authority or advisory authority related to campus planning, site planning and building planning. A significant increase in the number of staff in the Offices of Architectural and Engineering Services and the Office of Environmental Policy. Such staff to include experts in campus master planning, site planning, and site design to work with the above groups and outside consultants. Creation of a Office of Campus Planning. Creation of a Standing Committee of the University Senate related to Campus Planning which would have clearly defined decision making authority or advisory authority related to campus planning, site planning and building planning. 10 Land Use & Sustainable Development Subcommittee Invasive Species Control Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Bike Plan Landfill Remediation Project Green Building/Low Impact Development Campus Trails Campus Planning and Site Review Invasive species New state law prohibits the purchase or use of a list of invasive plant species as recognized by the CT Invasive Plants Council At meeting in March, AES staff agreed to incorporate “banned” list into ongoing building projects and specifications for future projects LUSD will support the Arboretum Committee on Campus Invasives Policy involving mapping, analyses, and eventual removal
