Human Genetics We surveyed our class to see how many students showed dominant or recessive traits. The seven traits surveyed were, mid-digit hair, pinky, color blindness, dimples, forelock, thumb, and types of ear lobes. These results along with the rest of the results submitted by students in the project were analyzed. Is the dominant trait most prevalent?

Class Hypothesis Click here
3
Process & Results We totaled # of people surveyed and totals for each trait. We decided if the dominant or recessive trait was present for each of the 7 traits examined in this project. We graphed our findings on excel.
4
What we know about ear lobes Free ear lobes are (d) Attached ear lobes are (r) (d)=dominant ®=recessive
5
More things about Ear Lobes is… Dominant ear lobes are free ear lobes. Dominant ear lobes are those that hang below the point of attachment to the head. Recessive are attached ear lobes. Attached ear lobes are attached directly to the side of the head.
6
Attached ear lobes, the recessive trait, was the most Common in this study.

Have you ever looked at your thumbs to see if they are straight or curved? If your thumbs are curved you have the recessive trait. If your thumbs are straight then you have the dominant trait. For the thumb trait dominant was found most prevalent!
9
Mid digit hair is a dominant Trait. If you have It look on your ring finger. The Recessive trait was the most common
10
Dimples Dimples, are dominant, they show when you smile. They are in dents in your cheeks. Like this

By: Nick and Trevor If you can’t see this number you might be color blind? The number is 25. So are you color blind? We got this picture from http://www.toledo- bend.com/colorblind/Ishih ara.asp

The chart we came up with
14
#1 a trait of a pinky comes from your parents generation. #2 A bent pinky is recessive and the straight pinky is dominant. #3 Hold your hands together as if you are covering your face, if the tips of your pinkies point away from one another, then your pinkies are bent
16
Our results with the White Forelock is 158 people which is 7% and with out is 2142 people which is 93% of the people that were surveyed. All together there was 2310 people who were surveyed. The recessive trait was prevalent here.
17
Our Conclusion The Recessive Traits were more common. Poplar Bluff 5/6 Grade Center Ms. Carda’s 6 th grade homeroom Poplar Bluff, MO

Ideas for the future If we were to do this study again, we’d like to survey such traits as: Left/right handed Tongue rolling and Hair color
